“Late May Bank Holiday” is the older name for what’s now called the Spring Bank Holiday. In 2026 it falls on Monday 25 May.
Why two names?
The Banking and Financial Dealings Act 1971 introduced the date as the “Spring Bank Holiday” but everyone called it the “Late May Bank Holiday” for years to distinguish it from the May Day Bank Holiday at the start of the month. Both names refer to the same date.
